GTA 6 may still be unfinished but Rockstar’s 2026 release plan feels stronger

Grand Theft Auto VI is still a long way off, but new chatter suggests the finish line isn’t quite in sight yet.

Speaking on the Button Mash podcast, Bloomberg journalist Jason Schreier shared that GTA 6 may not be content complete at this stage. That means parts of the game are still being wrapped up, with teams finalising missions, levels, and deciding what ultimately makes the cut.

In simple terms, the game isn’t fully locked down. While major features are likely in place, content completion usually comes before full bug fixing. Even then, late additions and tweaks can still happen behind the scenes.

Why November 2026 still feels realistic

Originally planned for a 2025 release, GTA 6 has already seen a few shifts. The date moved to May 2026, and is now targeting November 16, 2026. Schreier says that date feels more believable than previous ones, but it’s far from guaranteed.

According to him, nobody at Rockstar Games can promise, with full confidence, that November will stick. Still, it sounds more solid than earlier targets.

One key factor is quality. Rockstar Games has a reputation for not cutting corners, especially with a release as big as GTA 6. There’s also some flexibility, as the company’s financial year runs until March 31, leaving room if extra time is needed.

For now, November 2026 feels possible. Just don’t be shocked if plans change again.
