Gears of War: Reloaded is officially launching on August 25th for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox, making it the first time the iconic series will be available on PlayStation. This newly announced remaster is set to be the most complete and technically enhanced version of the original Gears of War, first released in 2006.
Announced through a post on the official Xbox website, the remaster is being developed by The Coalition, the studio currently behind the Gears franchise, in collaboration with Sumo Interactive and Disbelief. Gears of War: Reloaded will feature everything from the Gears of War: Ultimate Edition, including:
- The full original campaign
- All post-launch downloadable content, including the bonus campaign act
- Every multiplayer map and mode released to date
- A wide selection of classic characters and cosmetics that can be unlocked through progression

Gears of War: Reloaded doesn’t just bring back the original game—it also enhances it for modern systems. Players can expect:
- 4K resolution support
- 60 FPS in campaign
- Up to 120 FPS in multiplayer
- HDR and VRR (Variable Refresh Rate) support
- Enhanced post-processing effects
- Improved shadows and reflections
- Super resolution with advanced anti-aliasing
- Zero loading screens in the campaign
These upgrades aim to deliver a seamless and visually impressive experience while maintaining the gameplay that made Gears of War a fan favourite.
Full cross-platform and progression support
One of the biggest features of Reloaded is its full cross-platform multiplayer and cross-progression across PC, PS5, and Xbox Series consoles. Players who log in using a Microsoft account will benefit from these features automatically, including the ability to send and receive invites between platforms. However, even without signing in with a Microsoft account, cross-platform multiplayer will still be supported.
Free upgrade and Game Pass availability
For those who already purchased the Gears of War: Ultimate Edition prior to today’s announcement, Gears of War: Reloaded will be available as a free upgrade. Additionally, the game will be accessible on day one through Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass, giving subscribers an easy way to jump into the action.
With a combination of visual enhancements, classic gameplay, and modern features like cross-play, Gears of War: Reloaded looks to be a must-play for both long-time fans and newcomers. The arrival on PlayStation marks a historic moment for the series, broadening its reach beyond the Xbox ecosystem for the first time.
