On Sunday September 13, FaZe Clan won the PLAYERUNKNOWN’S BATTLEGROUNDS Continental Series (PCS) 2 Europe Grand Finals, claiming the winner’s share of the $200,000 USD prize pot. The roster – consisting of David ‘Fuzzface’ Persson, Ivan ‘ubah’ Kapustin, Ludvik ‘Aitzy’ Jahnsen and Gustav Blond – beat off competition from 15 other teams who will each receive funds depending on their placement position. Participation money will also be distributed among teams who did not progress from the tournament Group Stage.
As well as the $200,000 prize pot, participating PCS2 Europe teams will benefit from the Pick’Em Challenge, with 25% of revenue from global in-game PCS2 item sales being distributed among teams in Europe and other regions.
The event took place over three consecutive weekends, on August 29 and 30, and September 5, 6, 12 and 13, with each team playing four matches on each day. On the opening weekend of the PCS2 Europe Grand Finals, it was Natus Vincere who led the pack with a total of 73 points. They were closely followed by shiftW – who came from open qualifiers – and eventual winners FaZe Clan who finished Day 2 in third place.
FaZe Clan showcased their skills on Days 3 and 4. Led by experienced player ubah – who took out three players with one grenade in Match 9 – they claimed a vital two wins to propel themselves up the table and into first place. Fans also enjoyed impressive displays from Team Liquid and ENCE who were also on top form.
Heading into the final weekend it appeared to be a three-way race between FaZe Clan, shiftW and ENCE, with each roster aiming to win their first PCS tournament. However, on an exciting Day 5, Team Liquid claimed a win and overturned a 39 point gap to go top of the leaderboard – leaving FaZe Clan trailing them by six points.
On the final day, FaZe Clan were in stunning form, dismantling their opponents on route to claiming two important wins which proved enough to secure the PCS2 Europe Grand Finals title. Despite their strong start, Team Liquid finished second – with PCS1 Europe winners TSM rounding off the top three.
Fans can already look forward to PCS3 Europe, with registration for open qualifiers starting on September 14. For more information about PUBG esports, please visit the official Twitter or Instagram pages, or the dedicated PCS Europe website.
