Ever heard of Fabio Rovazzi? Now you will have. Starting tomorrow, players from all over the world have an additional playable operator in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Call of Duty: Warzone, the free-to-play first-person shooter set in Modern Warfare’s universe with over 75 million registered players.
The operator’s codename is Morte and his voice and appearance are those of Fabio Rovazzi, the multi-faceted 26-year-old Italian creator and artist. During his career, Rovazzi has been a singer, an actor and a film director. Fabio is a long-term fan of the Call of Duty franchise.
The new operator is a former soldier of the Italian special force ‘1° Regiment Col. Moschin’ and his appearance uses photogrammetry to realistically portray Fabio Rovazzi, with the addition of some very peculiar features. The operator’s look is inspired by the ‘Italian Western’ film genre, which during the 1960s and the 1970s relaunched the western in Italy thanks to extremely talented and famous directors, who included well-known actors in memorable films.
The classic soldier-like beret is replaced by a cowboy hat and a stylish poncho. Add the iconic big and bushy beard to Fabio’s face and animate his hands with a gun spinning move, and there you have Morte coming to life in all his glorious badassery.
Being a character in Call of Duty has always been a secret and impossible dream of mine, and there are no words to describe the excitement of the opportunity to give my voice and my appearance to an operator. I also love the character tribute to the Italian Western tradition. When I think that millions of players will be able to play with my character, I feel flattered and satisfied beyond imagination.
says an enthusiastic Fabio Rovazzi
Morte’s background is a very intriguing one. The character interpreted by Fabio Rovazzi, whose real name is Sergio Sulla, was a kid from Salerno with a passion for Western-films and the dream of becoming a law enforcer. However, his desires were crushed by his hard and gall temper, leading him into the juvenile justice system for having ‘energetically defended’ some unfortunate people from local bullies.
Being cut out from the law enforcer road, he enlisted as a volunteer in the Col. Moschin special force, serving in Iraq and Libya. But after some time, even the Army resulted unsuitable for Sergio, who is now the Warcom operator named Morte, a nickname symbolizing the ultimate tribute to the ‘dead’ dream of the bounty hunter who wanted to be a sheriff.
Fabio Rovazzi’s ‘Morte’ has now joined Captain Price, Ghost, Gaz and the other legendary Call of Duty operators.
Call of Duty: Warzone and has reached over 75 million players to date. It is free to download now on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. Internet connection required, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare full game sold separately.
