Edifier HECATE G2000 Pro review: Small size, big boom

We unboxed Edifier’s HECATE G2000 Pro recently, and let’s be honest, the white version looks absolutely mint. The new top-mounted controls are a welcome change from the original G2000’s awkward side buttons, and the whole aesthetic has had a serious glow-up, literally. With a see-through casing that shows off RGB lighting from nearly every angle, these are speakers that don’t just sound good; they look the part too.

Design & build – Sleek, sturdy, and screaming ‘next-gen’

Also available in black and pink, we were sent the white variant of the G2000 Pro, which instantly grabs your attention. It’s compact enough to tuck beside/under most monitors (just 5.5×4.6×6.3 inches), but still feels premium. The metal caps and transparent RGB chamber give it that “I belong on a pro setup” vibe, while the silicone feet stop it from sliding around mid-match. I did think that the plastic casing may make it feel a bit cheap, but it’s not some flimsy, lightweight vacuum-formed case; this is solid and robust.

Unlike the original G2000, which had its controls positioned on the side, Edifier has now moved them to the top. A small change, but a smart one. It keeps everything within reach and cleans up the profile nicely.

Sound quality – Punchy, precise, and surprisingly loud

With 32W RMS and 64W peak output, the G2000 Pro seriously punches above its weight. You won’t be rattling windows, but you’ll definitely feel the bass thanks to the 3” full-range drivers and dual bass reflex ports. At low to medium volumes, the sound is crisp and clear. Crank it up and you’ll still get a decent thump without muddy distortion, something that cheaper speakers in this size bracket often struggle with.

And the sound modes? Surprisingly effective. Game Mode gives sharper footstep cues, Movie Mode engages that virtual 7.1 surround to widen the soundstage, and Music Mode does a decent job of enhancing vocals. It’s no replacement for a full audio rig, but it adds welcome variety to suit different scenarios.

Lighting – Tasteful, customisable RGB that actually works

RGB is everywhere these days, but Edifier’s TempoFlow lighting on the G2000 Pro feels like it was designed with care rather than slapped on. You get 20 LED strips and 100 RGB beads, all embedded in a clear plastic frame that lets the light dance through your setup with 270° glow.

It’s subtle enough for clean setups but bold enough to pop if you’re all about that aesthetic. Control it via HECATE software or use the onboard buttons to flick through the seven preset modes. It’s easy, responsive, and most importantly, doesn’t feel like a gimmick.

Connectivity – Plug it into (almost) anything

Bluetooth 5.4 is a nice step up, with a 33ft range and ultra-stable pairing. Tested across a few Android gadgets and an iOS device, we had no issues with lag or drops. USB-C connectivity is great for PC or PS5 gaming, with minimal latency, while the 3.5mm AUX option ensures you’re not stuck when hooking up your Xbox or Switch.

Bonus points for including all the cables in the box, something many brands still fail to do.

Customisation – Make it yours

With HECATE’s software, you can tweak a full 10-band EQ, adjust lighting effects, and even hook into voice assistants using the Bluetooth button. It’s rare to get this level of software control in a set of sub-£150 desktop speakers, and it shows how serious Edifier is about bridging the gap between casual users and enthusiasts.

Gaming & everyday use – Where they shine

Let’s be clear, if you’re expecting £500 studio monitor quality, you’ll be disappointed. But at under £150 RRP (often on sale around £130), the G2000 Pro delivers exceptional value. Whether it’s positional audio in FPS games, immersive music listening, or just having them on in the background while working, they perform solidly across the board.

They even held their own during late-night gaming marathons and movie sessions. And yes, the RGB kept the vibe just right.

For the price, you’re getting a lot: punchy sound, good connectivity, stylish design, and tasteful RGB. There are some small caveats: audiophiles might find the mids a bit crowded in Music Mode, and deeper bass doesn’t always hit as hard as you might like, but overall, the G2000 Pro is an excellent upgrade for any gamer or content creator.
