Dune: Awakening has officially launched on Steam, bringing the harsh world of Arrakis to life in what developer and publisher Funcom calls their most ambitious game yet. After a five-day head start for Deluxe and Ultimate Edition buyers that began on June 5th, the game is now fully available to everyone, and early reception has been overwhelmingly positive.

Over 117,000 players joined during the early access period, a figure that is expected to rise now that the pre-order phase has ended and the gates are fully open.

Holding a strong 89% user rating on Steam, Dune: Awakening is already making waves in the survival MMO space. Players are praising the game’s immersive scale, visuals inspired by Denis Villeneuve’s award-winning films, and its deep political systems tied to the legendary houses of Atreides and Harkonnen. Built as a buy-once experience, the game does not include microtransactions, subscription fees, or Early Access tags—an increasingly rare approach that many players are celebrating.

Set in the dangerous deserts of Arrakis, the game challenges players to survive sun-scorched terrain, navigate brutal sandstorms, and beware the massive sandworms lurking beneath the dunes. It blends survival gameplay with MMO features, offering large-scale multiplayer servers where hundreds of players can trade, fight, and engage in political intrigue in a persistent shared world. Crafting plays a huge role, with players able to build everything from weapons and armor to vehicles like ground cars and ornithopters.

While the game is currently only available on PC via Steam, Funcom has confirmed that console versions for PlayStation and Xbox are in development, with a launch window expected sometime in 2026.

To celebrate the launch, Dune: Awakening was featured during the Summer Game Fest with a new trailer premiere. Today, a special supercut trailer has been released that compiles the best cinematic moments from the game’s earlier reveals, acting as a celebration of this major milestone.

Players can also access the Dune: Awakening Season Pass, which debuts with the Wildlife of Arrakis DLC. This pack features four in-game statues that honour some of the most iconic creatures from the Dune universe: the sandworm, chiroptera, kulon, and Muad’Dib. Three more DLCs are included in the pass, set to release in Q4 2025, Q1 2026, and Q2 2026, respectively. Meanwhile, Funcom plans to continue releasing free updates packed with new content and gameplay improvements.

With a strong launch, no microtransactions, and a rich world to explore, Dune: Awakening is shaping up to be a standout in the survival MMO genre.
