With Destiny 2: Renegades landing next week, Bungie has rolled out a full preview of what awaits players – and it might be the closest the series has ever come to full-on Star Wars energy. The studio hosted a live stream and dropped a new launch trailer, giving a clear look at the expansion’s combat shake-ups, activities, and the post-launch dungeon.

Destiny 2: Renegades – launch trailer

Renegades introduces the Praxic Blade, a slick melee weapon that plays like Destiny’s own take on a lightsaber. Blasters are a completely new archetype, running on heat rather than magazines, which means you’ll be managing cooldowns instead of reloading.

The Lawless Frontier is the core activity this time. It’s a replayable space built around climbing through Syndicate factions using the new Notoriety system. The Pikers, Tharsis Reformation, and Totality Division each offer missions you can run solo or as a fireteam of three. These range from bounty hunts and smuggling runs to sabotage jobs. There’s also Invasion, a mode you choose to enable that lets another Guardian drop into your run and try to ruin your day.

A new dungeon, Equilibrium, arrives on 13 December, with a behind-the-scenes video documentary already out.

Destiny 2: Renegades looks promising, but the real challenge is whether it can pull players back. Steam concurrency hit an all-time low last month, and numbers haven’t recovered. If this expansion doesn’t land, things could get tougher for Bungie.
