After months of speculation and build-up, Death Stranding 2: On the Beach is finally here. The highly anticipated sequel to Hideo Kojima’s boundary-pushing 2019 title is now available exclusively on PlayStation 5, inviting players back into a hauntingly beautiful post-apocalyptic world, this time set across the vast and deadly landscape of Australia.
What is Death Stranding 2: On The Beach about?
Led once again by Norman Reedus as Sam Porter Bridges, the new story sees players reconnect with familiar faces, including Léa Seydoux and Troy Baker, while welcoming new cast members Elle Fanning, Shioli Kutsuna, and legendary filmmaker George Miller. It’s a cast as eclectic and enigmatic as the game itself, and from what we’ve seen, On the Beach looks ready to challenge both expectations and genre definitions all over again. But will it live up to expectations?

Premiered earlier this month at a packed showcase hosted by Geoff Keighley in Los Angeles, Death Stranding 2: On the Beach has already drawn acclaim for its powerful themes and stunning visuals. The story picks up with Sam and his companions setting off on a new journey that may determine humanity’s future, once again confronting that central, haunting question: Should we have connected?
The project marks another deeply personal effort from Hideo Kojima, with long-time collaborator Yoji Shinkawa returning for character and mechanical design. The atmospheric soundscape is shaped by musical director Ludvig Forssell, with title design once again led by Kyle Cooper.
While full reviews and in-depth breakdowns are still rolling in, early impressions suggest this is Kojima at his most experimental, emotional, and expansive.
Death Stranding 2: On the Beach is available now via the PlayStation Store and select retailers.
