Bloober Team is back with another deep dive into Cronos: The New Dawn, this time pulling back the curtain on the game’s backstory. The new developer diary lands just ahead of its 5 September launch, and it’s packed with fresh hints about what’s really going on in this time-twisting horror. Check it out below.

At the centre of it all is The Change – a bizarre event from the 1980s that lead writer Grzegorz Like describes as a strange, world-altering illness. You will play as a Traveller, an agent of the mysterious Collective, sent through time to track down specific people. Hold on…. you’re not there to save them. Your job is to extract their very essence, something producer Klaudia Sewera compares to taking their soul.

These extractions aren’t just for show. Each one gives you gameplay perks and deeper clues about the bigger picture. You choose who to extract, and those decisions will shape the story, the world, and how future runs play out.

The video also lifts the lid on The Warden, the NPC who keeps your gear in shape and runs the mission hub. And he’s just one of many characters with tangled histories and connected fates. Your protagonist starts out in the dark, uncovering the truth piece by piece, right alongside you.

With grim choices, branching outcomes, and unsettling lore, Cronos: The New Dawn is looking like a survival horror built for multiple runs.
