Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 isn’t just one of 2025’s biggest surprises – it’s the start of something much larger. Creator Guillaume Broche has confirmed the JRPG is the first step in a full Clair Obscur franchise.

The game launched to massive success earlier this year, even standing strong against The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered. Now, as awards season looms, many believe it’s the favourite to take home Game of the Year.

Broche, who left Ubisoft to found Sandfall Interactive, revealed in a chat with YouTuber MrMattyPlays that Expedition 33 is “one of the stories” they want to tell under the franchise banner. He stopped short of giving details but made it clear: this is far from over. You can check it out below.

Fans suspect the team will follow an anthology-style route, much like Final Fantasy. That theory gained traction when Sandfall confirmed a creative exchange with Square Enix in Japan.

And for players still deep in Expedition 33, Broche teased post-launch content with a simple line: “There might be something. We may be cooking.”

Franchise beginnings, Square Enix ties, and new content – Clair Obscur is only just getting started.
