With Civilization VII just around the corner, Firaxis has dropped a roadmap outlining what’s in store for the rest of 2025. The game officially launches in 11 days, but those who pick up the Deluxe or Founders Edition can dive in early from 6 February. And if that wasn’t enough to get fans excited, there’s a wave of free and paid content lined up to keep the game evolving throughout the year.

Free updates and the Right to Rule expansion

March kicks things off with a content-packed update of Civilization VII that’s free for all players. Ada Lovelace joins the game as a new leader, alongside two fresh civilizations: Carthage and Great Britain. Players will also be able to uncover four new Natural Wonders, including Mount Everest and the Bermuda Triangle. The update also introduces major in-game events like Natural Wonder Battle and Marvelous Mountains. On top of that, Simon Bolivar is set to lead his people once again, with Bulgaria and Nepal joining the roster of civilizations.

After March, the next wave of updates, called Right to Rule, will roll out between April and September. This Civilization VII expansion will add two more leaders, four additional civilizations, four World Wonders, and new events and challenges for players who enjoy a tougher experience. Alongside this, Firaxis will continue releasing free updates, focusing on bug fixes, quality-of-life improvements, and extra in-game events to keep things fresh.

Civilization VII - Roadmap

What’s next?

For now, the roadmap of Civilization VII stops at October 2025, teasing “More to come.” This likely means Firaxis is gearing up for paid DLC expansions, similar to Civilization VI’s Rise & Fall and Gathering Storm. While these expansions tend to come with a hefty price tag, they also bring significant gameplay changes—and usually end up on sale if you’re patient.
