Bungie has delayed Marathon. The game was set to launch on 23rd September 2025. That’s no longer happening. A new date will come this fall.
The news came in a blog post from the dev team. It’s the first major update since the Alpha playtest. Fans had shared strong feedback. Bungie says they’ve listened closely.
“Your voice has been clear,” they wrote. “We need more time.” After internal talks, the team chose to delay.
Marathon gets more time to evolve
The extra time will go into improving core features. These include:
- Better survival gameplay – more intense and smarter AI.
- Stronger combat – more tension, more strategy.
- Rewarding runs – dynamic events and better loot.
- Deeper story and world – higher visual quality, darker tone, more lore.
- Solo and duo support – smoother play for small groups.
- Proximity chat – it’s being added.

The blog says the team is “doubling down” on the Marathon universe. That means stronger storytelling and visuals. They want the game to reflect the classic Marathon spirit.
This delay isn’t a shock. Rumours pointed to problems in marketing. There was also a past issue with stolen art. Bungie had to fix the visuals and rebuild some assets.

The devs say we’ll hear more this fall. That’s when they’ll share the new release date.
For now, the wait continues. But if it means a better Marathon, it might be worth it.
