505 Games and MercurySteam have announced Blades of Fire, a new action adventure game launching on May 22 for PS5, Xbox, and PC (Epic Games Store). Priced at $59.99 / £49.99, pre-orders are now open.
MercurySteam, known for Metroid Dread and Castlevania: Lords of Shadow, is bringing its signature combat expertise to this new title. 505 Games president Neil Ralley praised the developer’s unique approach to weapons customisation and storytelling, calling it an “outstanding combat experience.”

A battle for steel in a world turned to stone
In Blades of Fire, steel has been turned to stone by the spell of Queen Nerea—except for the weapons wielded by her monstrous army. Players take control of Aran de Lira, a warrior who can still wield steel, and his companion Adso, a scholar with knowledge of lost myths.
Blades of Fire’s standout feature is its weapons forging system, allowing players to craft and modify weapons with different materials, hilts, runes, and edges. Every weapon alters combat, making strategic crafting essential for overcoming the 50+ enemy types, including the Queen’s guards, creatures, and undead.

Blades of Fire key features
- Forge your destiny – Craft weapons from seven different weapon families and over 30 unique Forge Scrolls to create near-infinite weapon variations.
- Tactical combat – Attack specific body parts, using slashing, stabbing, or bludgeoning techniques based on the enemy’s armour and weaponry.
- Adso’s guidance – Adso provides insights into enemies and translates ancient texts crucial to the adventure.
- A world of mystery – Explore huge castles, maze-like palaces, and hidden locations, uncovering secrets along the way.

With MercurySteam’s pedigree in action combat and an ambitious forging system, Blades of Fire looks set to deliver a deep, strategic, and visually stunning adventure.
