Prison-break stories usually start the same way: bad luck, worse timing, and a system that’s already decided you’re guilty. That setup fits Back to the Dawn perfectly, and as of today (5 March 2026), you can start plotting your way out on Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2.

Published by Clouded Leopard Entertainment and Spiral Up Games, with development from Metal Head Games, Back to the Dawn drops you into Boulderton Prison, a maximum-security mess where gangs run the rhythm of daily life, and everyone’s got an angle. The twist is how you approach it: you’ll play as either Thomas the Fox, an investigative journalist framed and locked up, or Bob the Panther, an undercover detective infiltrating the prison from the inside.

Two protagonists, one big problem: Survive long enough to escape

This is a story-first RPG that leans into choices, relationships, and investigation just as much as it does scrapping in the yard. You’ll be taking on quests, gathering evidence, making allies (or enemies), and navigating a prison run by three powerful gangs, with multiple escape routes and several possible endings depending on how you play it.

If you’re the sort who likes a game you can properly sink into, the publisher is pitching over 100 handcrafted quests and more than 500,000 words of narrative, which helps explain why Back to the Dawn already has a seriously vocal fanbase on PC.

How much is Back to the Dawn on Switch?

On the Nintendo UK store, Back to the Dawn is listed at £29.99 for both Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2.

Already on PC and Xbox too

If you’ve seen this making the rounds before, that’s because the game is already available on Steam, where it’s sitting on an “Overwhelmingly Positive” user rating. It’s also available on Xbox, with the store listing noting cloud play support through Xbox Game Pass tiers (depending on plan).

Physical edition details are still to come

A physical release has been mentioned for Nintendo platforms, with Clear River Games involved in publishing duties, but final specifics are still being drip-fed.
