ASUS has teamed up with Xbox to launch two new handheld gaming devices—the ROG Xbox Ally and ROG Xbox Ally X. These all-new handhelds are built from the ground up to improve comfort, boost performance, and deliver a full Xbox gaming experience on the go. Both models will be available during the 2025 holiday season in many major markets including the US, UK, Japan, and across Europe and Asia.
Designed for gamers who want both power and portability, the new Ally series brings major upgrades over the original ROG Ally. The ROG Xbox Ally is powered by the energy-efficient AMD Ryzen Z2 A Processor, while the higher-end ROG Xbox Ally X uses the more powerful AMD Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme Processor. This chip not only boosts performance in AAA games but also includes AI support for future Windows features.

ASUS focused on making the devices more comfortable to hold for long sessions. Inspired by Xbox controller design, the new chassis includes a better palm rest, improved grip textures, and a more balanced shape. The ROG Xbox Ally X also adds impulse triggers, bringing more precise and immersive feedback in supported games.

ROG Xbox Ally running on Windows 11
Both models run on Windows 11, but ASUS and Xbox have worked together to create a streamlined, console-like experience. When the device starts up, users are taken straight into a full-screen Xbox interface that supports joystick and button controls. From there, players can quickly access settings, customise widgets, or launch games from both Xbox and other platforms.
Graphics performance has also been improved. The devices support AMD’s latest technologies including FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR), Radeon Super Resolution (RSR), and Fluid Motion Frames (AFMF), all helping to improve framerates and smoothness in modern games. The larger 60Wh battery in the ROG Xbox Ally X also helps extend playtime without sacrificing power.
With the ROG Xbox Ally and ROG Xbox Ally X, ASUS combines advanced AMD silicon, Xbox’s gaming ecosystem, and its own hardware design skills to create a next-gen handheld gaming platform. These devices are built for players who want the freedom of PC gaming, the simplicity of a console, and the comfort to play all day, anywhere.
