It looks like Assassin’s Creed: Shadows could be expanded with multiplayer features, based on a recent discovery in the game’s files.
A known game modder, going by Sliderv2 shared a post on X revealing that the game’s Bootstrap file includes references to several developer test maps marked for multiplayer and PVP. While these maps aren’t accessible in the current version, their presence adds weight to older rumours suggesting that Assassin’s Creed: Shadows might eventually support multiplayer in some form.
“Rumours of a planned multiplayer mode for Assassin’s Creed Shadows may be true. The Bootstrap file mentions a few developer test maps for Multiplayer and PVP,” Sliderv2 said in the post.

This would mark the return of multiplayer to the Assassin’s Creed franchise, something fans haven’t seen since Unity’s co-op missions and the competitive multiplayer in earlier titles like Brotherhood and Revelations. While there’s no official word from Ubisoft yet, the discovery hints that multiplayer could be added post-launch, especially since Shadows hasn’t received any major feature update since release.

That said, the game isn’t short on content. With two playable characters—Naoe and Yasuke—players can explore a detailed Feudal Japan setting filled with side quests and stealth-focused gameplay. It builds on the RPG elements and refined combat systems from previous entries, blending them nicely with a tight story and a world worth exploring.
Assassin’s Creed Shadows is available now on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox.
