Arc Raiders has received its January update, version 1.13.0, also known as the Headwinds update. At first glance, it looks like a standard content drop. In reality, it includes a change that could shape the game for years.
The update introduces a Solo vs Squads matchmaking option. Seven new quests are now available. A new bird infestation map condition has also been added. Players can now use squad invites and open squads, making it easier to team up. Several characters and enemies have also been rebalanced.

Arc Raiders introduces a three-strike system to target cheaters
The most serious change is hidden near the end of the patch notes. Embark Studios has started rolling out a new anti-cheat punishment system.
From January 2026, cheating will follow a three-strike rule. The first offence results in a 30-day ban. The second offence increases the ban to 60 days. A third strike leads to a permanent account ban.
The system is still being implemented, but the direction is clear. Cheating will now come with lasting consequences rather than light slaps on the wrist.
This follows ongoing complaints from the community. Many players have pushed for tougher enforcement, especially in an extraction shooter where unfair play hits harder.

That said, concerns remain. Reports of false bans continue to appear. Some players claim they were punished without breaking the rules.
For Arc Raiders, this is a strong stance. Now it needs to prove the system is both strict and fair.
