Marathon PC specs are surprisingly low for a modern extraction shooter

Bungie has confirmed the release date for Marathon, and along with a new trailer, the studio has revealed the game’s full PC system requirements on Steam. The good news is simple. They are far more forgiving than many players expected.

For an extraction shooter with a strong art style and bold visual design, Marathon does not push modern hardware hard. Most mid-range PCs from the past few years should be able to run the game without major issues.

Below is the full breakdown of the PC specs in a clear format.

Minimum PC specs

ComponentRequirement
CPUIntel Core i5-6600 / AMD Ryzen 5 2600
RAM8 GB
GPUGTX 1050 Ti (4 GB) / RX 5500 XT (4 GB)

Recommended PC specs

ComponentRequirement
CPUIntel Core i5-10400 / AMD Ryzen 5 3500
RAM16 GB
GPUGTX 2060 (6 GB) / RX 5700 XT (8 GB)

What stands out is the age of the hardware. The recommended CPU range dates back almost six years, while the GPUs launched around 2019. That massively lowers the barrier for PC players looking to jump into Marathon.

This approach mirrors ARC Raiders from Embark Studios, which launched last year with similar requirements. It also highlights a sharp contrast with Escape from Tarkov, which now asks for far newer CPUs, high-end GPUs, and up to 64 GB of RAM.

For PC players, Bungie’s decision is a welcome one. Marathon looks accessible, affordable to run, and ready for a wide audience at launch.
