Baldur’s Gate 3 will not be coming to Nintendo Switch 2, ending hopes of playing Larian’s hit RPG on Nintendo’s next console.

The confirmation came straight from Larian Studios boss Swen Vincke during a recent Reddit AMA. When asked about a possible Switch 2 port, Vincke made it clear the decision was out of the studio’s hands. He said;

“We would have loved to, but it wasn’t our decision to make.”

Not long after, a known industry leaker, NateTheHate, added more context. According to him, the issue isn’t technical, but contractual. He claimed Larian’s relationship with Hasbro / Wizards of the Coast is “not healthy,” which likely stopped the project from moving forward.

He also noted that, as of late last year, a Switch 2 version was already considered a no-go behind the scenes.

Baldur’s Gate 3 first entered Early Access in August 2020 before launching fully on PC in August 2023. PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S versions followed later that year. Support continued until April 2025, when the final major patch rolled out.

While Switch 2 players miss out, Larian Studios is far from quiet. The team is now deep in development on the next Divinity game, and Vincke confirmed it will not use generative AI artwork.
