David Grivel has returned to Ubisoft Toronto to continue the work he began in 2021. He confirmed on his LinkedIn that he is stepping back in as Game Director for the long-awaited Splinter Cell remake.
Where the Splinter Cell remake stands today
The project first entered development in 2021 under the codename North. Since then, updates have been rare, and the remake has stayed mostly in the shadows. Reports at the time suggested a 2026 release window, but with shifting priorities and challenges inside Ubisoft, that date now feels unlikely. Still, the confirmation of Grivel’s return is a strong sign that the project is moving forward.

Early internal footage shown in 2025 highlighted a detailed cinematic with Irving Lambert speaking to Sam Fisher. It made one thing clear. This is not a simple visual upgrade. The team is rebuilding the experience from the ground up with modern systems, modern tech, and a focus on new players as well as long-time fans.
The Splinter Cell remake is planned for PlayStation 5, Xbox, and PC. There’s still no clear picture of how far along development is. Even so, the news gives hope to fans who were unsure about the game’s future.

For now, the important part is simple. Development continues, and the director is back at the helm.
