It’s been a little while since I got to review a pair of SOUNDPEATS earbuds. So when the opportunity came up to try out the new Clip1 earbuds, I jumped at it!
Having done several pairs over the last couple of years. I know that SOUNDPEATS is all about quality and affordability. And with my most recent review of the RunFree Lite2, I felt like I had a great comparison to draw from. Will the Clip1 deliver like the RunFree?
SOUNDPEATS Clip1
The SOUNDPEATS Ear Clip 1 is an open-ear, clip-style earbud designed for those who want to listen to audio while remaining aware of their surroundings.
Lacking noise cancellation by design, these earbuds instead focus on audio quality and a comfortable, open fit.
To give you an idea of how they’ve been reviewed. I’ve had them at the gym, mowing the lawn, out for a run and just at home in the office writing reviews.
Different environments have been critical to understanding the design purpose for the Clip1, and it’s worked a treat to get my mind into how best to use them.

Design and features
The earbuds come in a “very shiny” grey case that opens lengthwise, a design I found convenient for access.
The case features a USB-C port (but no wireless charging) and a reset button. T
he buds themselves are really stylish. With gold accents and a subtle SOUNDPEATS “S” logo in gold, which I prefer to the more obtrusive branding on some competitors.
A key practical feature is the self-adaptive left and right audio channels, which means there are no “L” or “R” markings on the buds or case; you can place either bud on either side, and it functions correctly.
This is super useful when you’re in a rush or heading out for a run. Just whack them in and they fit comfortably, no matter which goes in which ear. The Clip1 is a fantastic design!
Key specs include Hi-Res Audio via LDAC, Dolby Audio support, 12mm dual magnetic drivers, and about 8 hours of playtime per charge. The battery life has been about right, so I’ve had a lot of wear out of a single charge!

App and connectivity
The SOUNDPEATS Clip1 connects to the SoundPEATS app.
From here, you can turn on Dolby Audio, set up a dynamic EQ via a hearing test, and choose from EQ presets.
The app also forces a choice: you can turn on LDAC for high-resolution audio, but you will lose multi-point connectivity.
The Clip1 connected to my devices easily, but the SoundPEATS app leave a bit to be desired. I’ve used it for a while now, so I understand how useful it is. But it does feel a little basic.
Sound quality
The sound quality is where the Clip1 truly distinguishes itself.
With them being open ear, there’s an expectation that those middle and lower levels are sacrificed a little. I think that’s a fair assessment, too.
Not because quality is diminished, but because you have an open ear for the very purpose of being able to hear your surroundings.
In a quiet environment, you can absolutely pick up on some of those lower ends. But they’re never going to deliver the experience of a set that allows for noise cancellation and closes up the ear a bit more.
The Clip1 delivers a solid sound, still. Nothing is lost, merely a little more spaced out and further away. Playing with the EQ, I found a good blend for running that let me hit my favourite tracks clearly, but with that slightly heavier lean on the higher-register audio.

Overall verdict on the SOUNDPEATS Clip1
If you need an earbud, you can pick up and put in your ear with very little attention. You’re in the right place.
The Clip1 looks great, feels great and fits great.
Taking them to the gym or for a run is the perfect use here. You’re safe to hear everything around you, whilst getting some quality audio. Delivering everything you expect to hear, with a bit more space in between, due to the open-ear design.
You’re not losing anything, you’re gaining safety and awareness.
In a quiet environment, they sound good. But the design doesn’t lend itself to audiophile levels of playback.
These are for an active person wanting to take their tunes or podcasts with them as they navigate the outside world. And they fulfil that utility perfectly.
