The wait’s over, Battlefield 6 just dropped its biggest update yet. Season 1 has officially launched, and it’s bringing along Battlefield REDSEC, a brand-new free-to-play battle royale mode that’s now live on PC, PS5, and Xbox.
After teasing fans with a short gameplay trailer yesterday, EA and Battlefield Studios wasted no time flipping the switch. REDSEC is available directly through Battlefield 6 for those who already own the game, while newcomers will need to install it via the main client. It’s not a separate app, at least not yet, but it’s fully playable for everyone from day one.

A full season roadmap and a fresh start
Alongside REDSEC’s release, Battlefield 6’s first full season roadmap has finally been revealed. It features new weapons, events, and an entirely new Conquest map called Blackwell Ridge, an open, chaotic playground built for all-out warfare.
But the real highlight is REDSEC itself, which comes with two distinct modes and a brand-new map called Fort Lyndon. The area, once a government testing ground, is now an all-out battleground built for destruction.

Two ways to fight
The first mode is a classic 100-player battle royale that pits squads of two or four against each other. The circle tightens, the danger grows, and the last squad standing wins. Vehicles, keycards, and limited resources make each match unpredictable, and survival comes down to teamwork and timing.
The second mode, Gauntlet, adds a unique twist. It throws eight squads into mission-based rounds where objectives constantly shift. One moment you’re capturing zones in Deadlock, the next you’re planting charges in Wreckage. Every round feels different, giving it a tactical edge that sets it apart from other shooters.

REDSEC might just be Battlefield 6’s boldest step yet, a mix of tactical strategy and explosive mayhem wrapped in the series’ signature sandbox chaos. Whether it can rival Warzone remains to be seen, but for now, it’s a strong start to a brand-new season.
