Independent studio Dusty Box has announced its debut title, Cult of Blood, a survival horror adventure steeped in ritualistic terror and psychological descent. Inspired by a true story and warped with dark magic, the game draws players into a secluded village ruled by a blood cult; a place where every corridor drips with dread, and every choice could be your last.
Revealed alongside a haunting new trailer, Cult of Blood channels the classic atmosphere of Resident Evil through its use of fixed camera angles, tank-style controls, and cinematic storytelling. Yet, it introduces modern refinements to aiming, dodging, and combat flow, creating a tense blend of old-school horror and contemporary survival design.
Players take on the role of a police officer investigating a remote village cut off from the outside world. What begins as a routine case quickly spirals into a nightmare as a cult devoted to a priestess, seeking to ascend as a goddess, ensnares him in their ritual. The villagers, neither alive nor dead, are stripped of their souls and enslaved to her will.
At its heart, Cult of Blood is a game about survival, scarcity, and sacrifice. Ammunition is precious, healing is rare, and every encounter demands careful thought. Blood souls, collected from fallen enemies, act as the player’s means to upgrade weapons or acquire new gear, forcing a balance between risk and reward as the story delves deeper into its ritualistic horrors.
“In Cult of Blood, we wanted to revive the suffocating tension of classic survival horror, where every corner hides danger and every decision could be your last,” says Angelo Axiotis, co-founder of Dusty Box. “This isn’t just a fight for survival – it’s a descent into a nightmare where you’re the key to a cult’s dark ascension.”
