In the minutes before Hollow Knight: Silksong went live, Twitch was buzzing. More than 240,000 viewers sat across thousands of channels, ready to jump in. But when the clock hit release. The sheer rush of players smashing that download button brought Steam to its knees.

Well… is it offline for everyone? Not quite. While some players managed to break through, many were stuck waiting. As of now, more than 310,000 people are watching the game on Twitch. Around 47,000 have actually managed to get into the game on Steam.

It’s not just Steam either. Reports say the Nintendo eShop and Xbox Store are wobbling. At one point, the store page for Silksong on Microsoft’s platform disappeared completely. Nobody knows why.

The hype isn’t surprising. Before launch, Silksong was the number one most-wanted game on Steam, stacked on millions of wishlists. After that Gamescom trailer and the sudden release date drop, the build-up was unstoppable.
