After more than two decades at Bungie, Pete Parsons is leaving the studio. The longtime CEO and studio head announced his departure in a blog post, confirming that chief development officer Justin Truman will take over the role.

Parsons first joined Bungie back in 2002 and became studio head in 2015. During his run, he oversaw some of the company’s biggest moments, including the launch of Destiny 2. But his leadership also faced intense criticism in recent years, following repeated layoffs, plagiarism controversies, and growing unrest inside the studio. Many former employees pointed directly at leadership, including Parsons himself, for the downward spiral.

Bungie’s future under new leadership

In his farewell note, Parsons said, “The future will be in the hands of a new generation of leaders.”

Truman, meanwhile, reflected on his 15-year journey at the studio, moving from engineering to design to production before joining the leadership team. He promised to stay true to Bungie’s mission of creating worlds “that inspire friendship,” while also addressing the studio’s struggles head-on.
