Freeze time. Control light. Outsmart the shadows. Orbyss, the debut title from indie studio Misty Whale, is now live with a free demo on Steam, giving players an early look at one of the most visually striking puzzle games of the year.

Described as a “poem of precision,” Orbyss trades reflexes for reasoning, inviting players into a serene but sinister world where light and shadow are at constant odds. It’s a single-player puzzle game where every move matters — and every room is designed to push your perception of space and logic.

A puzzle game that feels alive

You play as a glowing firefly of energy, leaping between Orbs in a bioluminescent dimension fractured by corruption. Solving puzzles means switching between Orbs, freezing time, flying drones, and even completing sound-based challenges — all supported with full visual accessibility features.

Inspired by the likes of Portal and Tron, Orbyss embraces clean logic and spatial creativity over twitch mechanics. There are no pixel-perfect jumps or sudden difficulty spikes—just elegant puzzle design across 40+ handcrafted levels.

Orbyss key features

  • Simultaneous Orb Control – Shift between Orbs to act in multiple places at once and unlock intricate solutions.
  • Multi-Mechanic Gameplay – Combine time manipulation, drone flight, and audio puzzles across eight distinct chapters.
  • Accessibility by design – Visual indicators support full gameplay without audio, offering inclusivity without compromise.
  • Boss Encounters & Cutscenes – Punctuated by dramatic moments that expand the strange, luminous world of Orbyss.
  • Music by Pierre Estève – A meditative soundtrack from the composer behind the Atlantis series.

Orbyss is about transformation, of the world and of your own perception,” says creator Yannick Audéoud. “It’s a puzzle game built to flow, not frustrate.”
