Romero Games is still alive. The studio, led by DOOM creator John Romero, has confirmed it’s not shutting down.

Last week, Microsoft laid off 9,000 workers. These cuts affected many in the games industry, even teams Microsoft doesn’t own. The studio lost funding because of this. Their current project was cancelled, and some staff was let go.

This led many to think the studio had shut down completely. But today, they posted a clear message:

“Romero Games is not closed. We are doing everything we can to make sure it stays that way. We were in the studio today to plan next steps.”

Yes, people lost their jobs. Yes, the project is cancelled. But the studio is still active.

Romero Games also said they are talking to several publishers. These talks could bring the cancelled game back to life. Right now, they are reviewing those options.

It’s a tough time, but it’s not the end. If things go well, the studio could continue the work they started. We may still get to see what they’ve been building.
