Archetype Entertainment has released a two-minute gameplay trailer for its upcoming science-fiction action RPG, EXODUS, titled The Traveler’s Creed. This marks the first time players get to see gameplay in action, and fans of Mass Effect are in for a nostalgic ride, with some fresh twists.
A glimpse into the story
Set in a new science-fiction universe, EXODUS tells the story of humanity’s struggle after fleeing a dying Earth. Players step into the shoes of The Traveler, a character who ventures into hostile alien territories to steal advanced technology from the powerful Celestials. These missions involve Time Dilation, meaning while days pass for the protagonist, decades or even centuries go by back home. This creates tough choices, with consequences that ripple across generations.
EXODUS key features and gameplay
Here are some highlights of what EXODUS promises to offer:
- Impactful choices: The Time Dilation mechanic adds emotional depth, as players see how their decisions change the world over decades.
- Companion-driven storylines: Like in other RPGs from BioWare veterans, companions play a big role, offering romance options and personal quests. However, there may be conflicts between them, putting players in the middle of the drama.
- Curated missions: The game isn’t open-world but focuses on tightly designed missions, similar to Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic.
Developed by industry veterans
Archetype Entertainment, based in Austin and part of Wizards of the Coast, is led by James Ohlen and Drew Karpyshyn, who are known for their work on classic RPGs like Mass Effect and Dragon Age. The studio also partnered with Certain Affinity to bring EXODUS to life.
Launch details
EXODUS will be available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. While the release date is yet to be announced, the developers hinted at more gameplay reveals in the near future. For now, fans can read the EXODUS prequel novel or watch a special episode of Blur Studio’s Secret Level on Amazon Prime Video.
