Legion Studios, a small team of 12 developers with impressive gaming backgrounds, has announced its first game, Covenant. With members who’ve worked on popular titles like Halo, Destiny, Doom, and Battlefield, expectations for this game are high.

About Covenant

Covenant is a first-person dark fantasy game that combines elements of Metroidvania and Soulslike genres. Players will explore a vast, interconnected world filled with secrets, puzzles, and intense battles. In the game, you’ll unlock fighting stances, weapons, spells, and armour to grow stronger as you progress.

The game is being developed using Unreal Engine 5, and the first trailer shows impressive graphics, even though it’s from a pre-alpha build. The visuals are detailed and feel similar to games by FromSoftware, but Covenant adds a twist by offering a first-person perspective.

Gameplay features

Covenant offers a mix of combat, exploration, and storytelling. Here’s what players can expect:

  • A large interconnected world: Discover shortcuts, hidden paths, and long-lost relics.
  • Boss battles: Fight powerful enemies, including creatures and fallen heroes.
  • Combat variety: Use weapons, stances, and spells to adapt to different situations.
  • Platforming and puzzles: Solve riddles and find creative ways to overcome obstacles.
  • Progression system: Upgrade weapons, learn new abilities, and craft unique builds.

Players can experience the game solo, join friends in co-op, or compete in player-versus-player (PvP) arenas. PvP options include 1v1, 2v2, and 3v3 battles.

A unique combat experience

The first-person perspective brings fresh challenges to the Soulslike formula. Combat is designed to be fast-paced and strategic. Players can master close combat with actions like kicking, rolling, and wall-jumping. Different fighting stances change how you attack, move, and even dodge, offering diverse playstyles.

Weapons and spells in Covenant can be upgraded to unlock special traits. The game also features a dual-handed system, where players can wield weapons differently to suit their strategy.

Story and setting

Players will take on the role of a messenger angel named Malach, sent to uncover the mystery of a fallen comrade. The story is set in a mythical land called Creation, where players will navigate through kingdoms, ruins, and perilous terrain.
