With the right amount of retro and modern style blended in, the company has now designed two products that can get you some nostalgic feels along with the gaming accessories—the 8BitDo Retro 87 Mechanical Keyboard and 8BitDo Retro R8 Mouse in a transparent green look.
These items are retro aesthetics mixed with modern functionality that really appeal to gaming enthusiasts and nostalgic Xbox fans.
Retro 87 mechanical keyboard
Another standout is the Retro 87 Mechanical Keyboard with its see-through green case, a callback to earlier Xbox designs, touting updated keycaps and added macro buttons for greater customisation and use at $199.99.
Inside, it features Kailh Jellyfish X switches, which are installed because of their translucency that works with the theme of transparency. It also introduces RGB backlighting—having eight different modes of lighting to personalise the way a keyboard looks.
Other features include two knobs in the top-left corner: one for mode switching and another for volume. 8BitDo Ultimate Software V2 allows the user to customise keymaps, profiles, macros, and light effects, but this software is only for Windows.
Retro R8 mouse
The Retro R8 Mouse is the first from 8BitDo and its transparent green and colorful-accented design matches the keyboard. It costs $59.99. For extra flexibility, the mouse includes three different ways to connect to a device: via USB-C, 2.4 GHz wireless, and Bluetooth LE.
It also has an optical sensor, supporting up to 26,000 DPI resolution for gaming and daily use. It is an ambidextrous-shaped mouse with eight programmable buttons and a dedicated DPI adjustment button.
The package also includes a matching charging dock that doesn’t only charge the mouse within about 2.5 hours but also extends the wireless signal. The battery life of this mouse is anywhere from 26 to 105 hours, depending on how it’s used. The Kailh Sword GM X Micro switches provide up to 100 million clicks, bringing in more durability. The mouse offers a range of polling rates for wired and wireless modes that cap at 8000 Hz in wired and 4000 Hz in wireless; if it detects Bluetooth mode is on, this drops to 125 Hz.
Availability and retro charm
Now available to pre-order from Amazon for both. It shows the Retro 87 Mechanical Keyboard and Retro R8 Mouse that 8BitDo tries to match the retro look with some realistic capabilities. The transparent green glow complemented with colorful accents makes for the quintessence of nostalgia found on an OG Xbox. As expected, these designs are in demand already; since it didn’t take much for the Retro R8 Mouse to be sold out when pre-orders opened, that goes to say the final sales could be as spontaneous among retro gaming accessories fans when launched officially.
With 8BitDo continuing to mash classic aesthetics together with today’s technology, the company further cements its status as a go-to brand for gamers who want it all in style and functionality.
