Finally! We have updates on Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 3.
The journey of Final Fantasy VII continues to captivate fans, and with the recent launch of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, the excitement is at an all-time high. Nominated for Game of the Year at The Game Awards, Rebirth is receiving widespread acclaim. Now, all eyes are on the third and final instalment of the remake trilogy.
In an interview with VG247, Naoki Hamaguchi, Final Fantasy VII Remake’s director, shared insights into the vision for the next game. He revealed that while the series’ gameplay is already a fan favourite, they’re aiming to take things in a slightly new direction to keep it fresh and exciting.
Updates on part 3
Hamaguchi mentioned that Final Fantasy Rebirth would not have any downloadable content (DLCs). The decision allows the team to focus entirely on delivering the final part of this epic trilogy. However, fans shouldn’t expect it anytime soon—development could take at least three years.
While Hamaguchi didn’t reveal a release date or specific gameplay details, he did confirm that their goal is to innovate rather than repeat what worked in the earlier games.

A breath of fresh air: learning from Rebirth
Reflecting on Rebirth, Hamaguchi explained how his team tried to avoid repetitive gameplay often seen in open-world games. Instead of sticking to the same mechanics throughout, they made sure each region of the game felt unique.
“I wanted it to feel like a breath of fresh air when you entered each different region. That you feel like there’s something new and exciting to do,” said Hamaguchi.
Mini-games and other activities helped achieve this variety in Rebirth, creating a dynamic experience that stood out. The team aims to carry this idea forward while adding fresh twists for the next chapter.
What fans can expect in Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 3?
Hamaguchi hinted that the third Final Fantasy VII Remake game will offer something different from its predecessors. While the battle system and open-world exploration will likely remain, players can look forward to new features, rearranged elements, and unexpected surprises.
“If we did just do the same thing again for the third game, it wouldn’t really be very new or exciting anymore,” he explained.
The goal is clear: to deliver an experience that feels as groundbreaking as the original game while wrapping up the trilogy in a memorable way.
The waiting game
Although it may be years before fans get their hands on Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 3, Hamaguchi’s commitment to innovation ensures it will be worth the wait. Meanwhile, PC players can look forward to Rebirth, which is expected to launch on the platform in the near future.
As the Final Fantasy VII Remake saga heads towards its grand finale, fans can rest assured knowing Square Enix is dedicated to creating something truly special.
