Indie game developer HitGrab today announced its partnership with the “Hospital for Sick Children” (SickKids) based in Toronto to raise money for children’s mental wellbeing through “The Clan Unites” initiative. With 100% of the event proceeds going to the Centre for Brain & Mental Illness, the developers of Clan O’Conall hope to highlight the strain that COVID’s lockdown restrictions have placed on vulnerable children.
The event will run from June 22nd to June 28th and involve various competitions and contests themed around the ‘Hibernian Summer Games’’, set in Clan O’Conall’s fictional Celtic world of Hibernia. Clan O’Conall’s developers are committed to matching pledges made during the event. They will also be giving away prizes in top categories for video submissions, fundraising goals and other social events. 100% of all donations will go to the SickKids Centre for Brain & Mental Illness.
Over 70% of children in Canada have experienced some decline in mental health due to COVID isolation. Children have suffered disproportionately, missing necessary time in the classroom, separation from their peers and living in an uncertain world. These factors and more have led to a growing prevalence of juvenile depression, anxiety and stress-related disorders at a time when resources for children are at an all-time low. More information about SickKids and their causes is available on their website.
Fundraisers for SickKids can sign up now for the event on the HitGrab website. Individuals and teams who are registered will be given a game key, couch-time with the developers, and a chance at the grand prize in the so-called “Foot Race”, named due to the goal being to get to a giant foot owned by one of the games’ bosses, Balor the Fomorian. The winner of the race will win a $3,000 cash prize.
As part of its most recent update since its April 2021 launch, Clan O’Conall has included a speedrunning mode for racers. This update is the result of the growing popularity of the game in the speedrunning community, being played by record-holders like Distortion2, TheMexicanRunner and spikevegeta, among others.

We knew a lot of our fans came from the speedrunning community. But we also wanted to host something [for SickKids] that anyone could get involved in, either as an individual or team.
