Dubbed the “N Edition,” this latest release draws clear design inspiration from the iconic Nintendo Entertainment System (NES)—although the company tactfully avoids naming the console outright.
The 8BitDo Retro R8 N Edition showcases a distinctly retro look, featuring off-white plastic, varying shades of grey, and a bright red button—an unmistakable nod to Nintendo’s classic 8-bit console. While the design leans heavily into 1980s nostalgia, the technology under the hood is anything but dated. 8BitDo equips this model with the same premium internals found in the previously released translucent variant.
At the heart of the mouse is PixArt’s PAW 3395 optical sensor, offering high precision tracking for gaming and productivity alike. It’s paired with Kailh’s Sword GM X micro switches, known for their durability and crisp tactile feedback. This combination makes the Retro R8 not only stylish but also reliable for daily use.
