IO Interactive has revealed 007 First Light, a brand-new game focused on the early years of James Bond. Set to launch in 2026, the title is coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC via Steam and Epic Games Store.
007 First Light isn’t another adaptation of the films. Instead, it’s an original story exploring Bond’s transformation into a secret agent, told through a cinematic spy adventure that gives players full control over how they complete each mission.
Bond before the Bond
007 First Light introduces players to a young James Bond before the tuxedo, the gadgets, or the licence to kill. He begins as a naval air crewman who earns MI6’s attention after a bold rescue. Soon, he’s recruited into the newly restarted Double 0 program.
Things quickly spiral when Bond’s first mission ends in disaster. Teamed with a reluctant mentor named Greenway, he uncovers a conspiracy at the highest levels of power. It’s a story about learning, adapting, and stepping into the role of a world-class agent.
Core gameplay features
- A new 007 origin story – Not tied to the movies, this standalone narrative builds James Bond’s character from the ground up. It focuses on growth, choices, and the weight of consequences.
- Global espionage – Travel to visually rich locations, engage in car chases, and tackle objectives in a variety of ways. The gameplay blends action, stealth, and dialogue-driven decision making.
- Your approach matters – Players can sneak through missions using gadgets and disguises, or go loud with firepower and combat. Bluffing, hiding, hacking, it’s all up to you.

If you’ve played any of the modern Hitman titles, you’ll recognise the studio’s style here. IO Interactive knows how to create layered, open-ended levels where planning and improvisation work in tandem. That same design philosophy seems to shape 007 First Light.
