It’s been 5 years now and, if you haven’t already, you most definitely need to play The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. If you are a hardcore, old school gamer I would recommend going for the full trilogy. On the other hand, the first game is now severely outdated and would most likely put you off if you’re into modern graphics and streamlined gameplay.

However, the third and final installation of the series is an unmatched masterpiece that is pretty much a staple in the gaming industry. Soon after this game came out, it was already deemed as an instant classic.

As time went on and the title got two major DLCs, each adding days of gameplay, the game’s all-time hall of fame spot was guaranteed. There are many reasons why The Witcher gained a massive cult following which eventually resulted in Netflix creating a series and, while I could go on about that for hours, I’ll try to keep it short and get you to play the game and enjoy that once in a lifetime experience.

Let’s start with the basics

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt came out in 2015 and features mesmerizing graphics for the time. More than that, it perfectly holds its own in today’s climate. From sunrises and sunsets to weather changes, trees and leaves swaying in the wind, rain and water physics, and so much more, this game has a lot to offer. There were many times when I had to take a break and just admire the landscape or take a screenshot.

Additionally, the sound design is breathtaking and makes another invaluable asset that tremendously adds to the immersion. And let’s not even start with the soundtrack. From ambient music to combat tracks everything is simply perfect. Personally, I got into the game because the soundtrack that I listened to during late-night work hours blew me away.

Then, there’s the matter of gameplay

First off, The Witcher 3 is a game is for adults, and not because it’s like JerkDolls games (though there are rather racy sex scenes). Expect plenty of fluid combat with lots of monster-slaying, intricate alchemy, potion-creation coupled with exploration, and traversing through different continents. You can do that by foot or by riding your faithful horse called Roach.

Also, being an RPG, expect to make a ton of choices. Every choice you make has an impact on the outcome down the road. Some differences are small and unimportant, and some are tear-inducing and will have you reloading the game if you’ve chosen poorly.

Finally, we get to storytelling

Based on an acclaimed book series, it should come as no surprise that The Witcher features a captivating story. Expect everything from witches and dragons to plot that’s best suited for incest porn games. Take on the role of a cold-blooded monster hunter who, directly or indirectly, ends up influencing everyone from peasants to kings and queens, who saves the world and helps its progression or contributes to its destruction and slaughter of thousands.
