Virtua Fighter new project drops raw combat gameplay, full reveal is set for TGS 2025

SEGA and Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio have finally dropped a first look at the new Virtua Fighter project, and it’s as work-in-progress as you’d expect. The new trailer focuses on the training stage, giving us an early taste of the game’s combat system.

There’s no official title yet. No platforms. No release date. Just raw gameplay showing Virtua Fighter’s iconic one-on-one fights in their most basic form. It’s all very early, but at least we now know in which direction SEGA and RGG Studio are heading.

The real info drop will happen at Tokyo Game Show 2025. That’s when SEGA plans to reveal more about the game. TGS 2025 is scheduled from September 25 to 28 at Makuhari Messe, Chiba, Japan. Until then, this teaser is all we’ve got.

This isn’t a flashy trailer. It’s a dev build showing the core fighting mechanics, movement, strikes, and how characters interact in a barebones training environment.

If you’re hoping to get a release date soon, then you should lower those expectations. Judging by how raw this footage looks, we’re probably looking at a 2027 release window.

You can watch the combat gameplay trailer below and see for yourself how Virtua Fighter is shaping up. It’s rough, but it’s a start.
