CD Projekt RED has officially kicked off full-scale production for The Witcher 4, marking an exciting new chapter for the beloved franchise. This milestone was announced by Sebastian Kalemba, Vice President and Game Director, who expressed his enthusiasm on Twitter (X):
“I’m thrilled to announce that Project Polaris has entered the full-scale production phase! With new challenges just around the corner, it’s the talented and hard-working people who make me believe we can together make the upcoming Witcher Saga a remarkable experience. No stopping now! Stay tuned for what’s on the other side of the coin!”
This announcement signals a major step forward for the series and offers a glimpse into what fans can expect from this eagerly awaited sequel.
A new beginning with Unreal Engine 5
The upcoming Witcher 4 game marks a significant shift for CD Projekt RED, as the studio transitions from its in-house REDEngine to Epic Games’ Unreal Engine 5. This partnership with Epic is designed to streamline development and provide advanced tools for crafting immersive worlds.
Paweł Zawodny, CTO at CD Projekt RED, previously shed light on this collaboration:
“This cooperation is so exciting because it will elevate development predictability and efficiency while simultaneously granting us access to advanced game development tools. I can’t wait for the great games we’re going to create using Unreal Engine 5!”
However, the team is still mastering the new engine, meaning the development timeline for The Witcher 4 could be longer than future projects.
Raising the bar for RPGs
CD Projekt RED has set its sights high for The Witcher 4, aiming to deliver a groundbreaking RPG experience. Game Director Kalemba hinted last year that the new saga would break boundaries with innovative mechanics, features, and storytelling.
Notably, the studio plans to make the game accessible to newcomers, offering a fresh starting point while maintaining the depth that longtime fans love.
With voice-over and motion capture scheduled to begin in 2025, it’s clear the game is still years away from release. However, fans can rest assured that the team is committed to making this entry worth the wait.
Keeping the magic alive
While we wait for more news, there’s no better time to revisit The Witcher 3: Next-Gen Edition. The game’s upgraded visuals and immersive gameplay are enhanced even further by community mods like the HalkHogan definitive texture pack, which takes the experience to breathtaking new heights.
As production gears up, anticipation for The Witcher 4 continues to grow. Whether you’re a longtime fan or a newcomer to the series, this new saga promises to be a magical journey into the world of monsters, mysteries, and unforgettable storytelling.
