Steam has just hit a massive new milestone, surpassing 41 million concurrent users. This new all-time record was reached a couple of days ago, only seven months after its previous high.
Some might think this spike was because of the Steam Next Fest, but that’s not exactly the case. The event began on October 13th, while the record was set a day earlier, on October 12th. That timing points towards Battlefield 6 as the main reason behind the surge.

Battlefield 6’s impact and Steam’s top games driving the record
Now, Battlefield 6 alone didn’t carry the entire load, its player count still trails behind PUBG: Battlegrounds, DOTA 2, and Counter-Strike 2. But it certainly helped push Steam to new heights.
Looking at the Top 15 most played games in the last 24 hours, Counter-Strike 2 leads with over 1.5 million players, followed by DOTA 2, PUBG, and Battlefield 6. The new Delta Force game surprisingly sits in fifth place, a huge win for TiMi Studio Group, even with its Mixed and Mostly Negative reviews.
The list continues with Apex Legends, Banana, Wallpaper Engine, Bongo Cat, and Rust. Rounding out the top spots are Stardew Valley, NARAKA: Bladepoint, Grand Theft Auto 5, and Dead by Daylight.
Whether Steam will break another record in 2025 remains to be seen, but with numbers like these, it’s only a matter of time.
