Slay the Spire 2 smashes Steam records with massive player surge

Slay the Spire 2 has exploded onto Steam in a way few roguelikes ever have. The early access sequel has now crossed 403,519 concurrent players on the platform at the time of writing, putting it among the biggest launches on Steam this year.

For a deckbuilding roguelike, those numbers are huge. The game shot up the charts shortly after release and quickly pushed past most other titles on Valve’s storefront.

Players clearly wasted no time jumping back into the Spire.

Slay the Spire 2 player numbers crush the original

The sequel’s success becomes even more impressive when compared to the first game. The original Slay the Spire, released in 2019, reached an all-time peak of 57,025 players on Steam.

The new entry has already blown past that record within days.

Price also plays a role. Slay the Spire 2 launched in early access at $25 (£19.70), making it an easy entry point for both returning fans and new players.

Reception has been just as strong. The game currently holds an Overwhelmingly Positive rating on Steam, with 97% of around 9,000 reviews recommending it.

Mega Crit still has work to do during early access, but the launch momentum is clear. Slay the Spire 2 isn’t just doing well, it’s dominating the roguelike space right now.
