SERUM gets a major update: Combat traps, Steam achievements, and custom difficulty mode added

Game Island, in partnership with Toplitz Productions, has just released the latest and most significant update for their single-player, immersive survival adventure game SERUM. This new update, patch 6, introduces a wealth of content including Steam achievements, custom difficulty modes, and combat traps, bringing a fresh level of depth to the game’s challenging world.

Major content additions

Since its early access launch on PC in May, SERUM has seen a series of updates that have continuously expanded its features. Patch 6 is the most substantial content drop so far, adding 23 Steam achievements. Players now have more goals to pursue as they loot, craft, recycle, and take down mutated enemies throughout their journey. This update also introduces a custom difficulty mode, giving players the flexibility to tailor the challenge to their preferred playstyle.

New gameplay elements

One of the most exciting additions in patch 6 is the introduction of combat traps. These traps come in slashing, piercing, and blunt force variants, offering players a new tactical option for defending against the mutated creatures that inhabit SERUM‘s dark and dangerous world. These traps complement the existing freestanding absorbers and the updated trap placement system introduced in patch 5, expanding the strategic possibilities for players.

Fixes, improvements, and future content

Beyond the new content, developer Game Island has included a series of fixes and improvements that address various areas of the game, including inventory management, storage, quests, and visual enhancements. Performance optimisations have also been a key focus, ensuring a smoother experience for players.

Additionally, the game has expanded its language support, making it more accessible to a broader audience.

The SERUM early access roadmap promises even more exciting content later this year, including the addition of a 4-player co-op mode and a new canyon biome. This upcoming area will introduce new mutated adversaries and delve deeper into the mutagen that forms the basis of the game’s main story and questline.
