Prime Video’s God of War series has finally locked in its Kratos, and it is a familiar face for fans of both TV and games.
Ryan Hurst has been cast as the lead protagonist Kratos in the upcoming live-action adaptation. The series is currently in pre-production, with casting still ongoing.
Hurst is best known for his role as Opie Winston in Sons of Anarchy, along with his appearance as Gerry Bertier in Remember the Titans. For gamers, his connection runs even deeper. He previously voiced Thor in God of War Ragnarök, a performance that earned him a BAFTA nomination in 2022 for Performer in a Supporting Role. That background should help him step into Kratos with confidence.

The Norse saga takes centre stage in the God of War live-action series
According to recent reports, Ólafur Darri Ólafsson is in talks to play Thor in the series, though this has yet to be officially confirmed. The show will focus on the Norse storyline from God of War (2018) and God of War Ragnarök.
The official synopsis describes a journey led by Kratos and his son Atreus as they attempt to scatter Faye’s ashes. Along the way, Kratos tries to teach his son how to be a better god, while Atreus pushes his father to be more human.
Confidence in the project is already clear. The series has been renewed for a second season before filming has even begun. Production is expected to start in February, with the first two episodes directed by Frederick E.O. Toye, known for The Boys and Fallout.
There is still no confirmed release date, but things are moving fast.
