Red Dead Redemption set for full new-gen and mobile release this December

Red Dead Redemption is finally stepping into the current generation, and it’s doing so in a big way. Rockstar has confirmed that the classic western and its Undead Nightmare DLC are coming to PS5, Xbox, Nintendo Switch 2, and mobile on 2 December 2025. This follows shortly after a fresh ESRB rating hinted at an updated release.

The best part is that players who already own the PS4, Xbox, or original Switch version will get this new upgrade for free. No extra purchase, no strings attached.

On PS5 and Xbox, the game now runs at 4K, 60 FPS with HDR and sharper image quality. Switch 2 players can expect DLSS support, HDR, and improved Joy-Con 2 controls. It also runs at 60 FPS on the new hardware, which is impressive for a handheld.

PlayStation Plus Extra subscribers will be able to jump in on launch day, with the game joining the service’s library. GTA+ members will also get access. On mobile, you’ll be able to grab it on both the App Store and Google Play, and Netflix subscribers can play it directly through the Netflix app.

Red Dead Redemption

It’s a strong return for Red Dead Redemption, and it’s good to see the game finally running the way it should on modern hardware. Still, fans are waiting for Red Dead Redemption 2 to get its own native current-gen version.

With Rockstar busy preparing Grand Theft Auto VI and facing criticism over alleged union busting, it remains to be seen when that upgrade will arrive.
