If you were holding off on picking up a PS5, that window has now all but closed.
Sony confirmed last week that prices across the entire PS5 range are going up globally from tomorrow, 2nd April 2026. It’s the second hike in under a year, and this one stings more than the last.
How much PS5 price hike are we talking?
In the US, the standard PS5 moves from $549.99 to $649.99, a $100 jump. The Digital Edition rises by the same amount to $599.99. The PS5 Pro takes the biggest hit, up $150 to $899.99. PlayStation Portal also climbs, from $199.99 to $249.99.
UK players face increases of around £90 per model, pushing the standard disc edition to £569.99 and the Pro to £789.99.

Sony’s VP of Global Marketing, Isabelle Tomatis, cited ongoing global economic pressures in the official announcement, without getting too specific. Behind the scenes, though, the likely culprit is memory chip costs. AI data centre demand has been hoovering up semiconductor supply, squeezing availability for consumer electronics manufacturers in the process.
Analysts at Ampere Analysis suggest Sony had previously locked in component costs at favourable rates, and those deals have now run their course.
What this means going forward
Console hardware used to get cheaper as the generations aged. Sony is now running that logic in reverse, twice over. With GTA VI still to come and a PS6 eventually on the cards, it’s hard to shake the feeling that the era of affordable console gaming is slipping away.
