Capcom has officially announced a new game in the Onimusha series, titled Onimusha: Way of the Sword. It will release in 2026 and will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC (Steam).

Onimusha: Way of the Sword promises intense swordplay and dark fantasy action. Players will explore Edo-era Kyoto, a historic Japanese capital, now engulfed in mysterious clouds of Malice. The game will feature blood-soaked battles against terrifying creatures known as Genma.
The story follows a samurai who wields the Oni Gauntlet, a mystical weapon that grants him the power to defeat these underworld monsters. The samurai’s journey is full of danger, mystery, and brutal combat as he searches for the purpose behind his fight.
About the Onimusha series
The Onimusha series began in 2001 with its first game set in feudal Japan. It introduced the Oni Gauntlet, a key element of the series, and the “Issen” counter-attack mechanic, which became a hallmark of its gameplay.
The games mix real historical events with dark fantasy, creating a unique world filled with intriguing stories and characters. Over the years, the series has become a fan favourite, selling more than 8.7 million copies worldwide. It has also inspired a Netflix animation, expanding its popularity further.

The developers have warned that Onimusha: Way of the Sword will feature mature content, including violence, gore, and other themes that may not be suitable for younger players.
