Moonlighter 2: The Endless Vault brings back shopkeeping and adventure with a twist

11 bit studios and Digital Sun have officially announced Moonlighter 2: The Endless Vault, the highly anticipated sequel to the shopkeeping and dungeon-crawling hit Moonlighter. The game is set to release in 2025 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC via Steam.

In a statement, Digital Sun CEO Javier Gimenez expressed enthusiasm for the project:

“The original Moonlighter was a pivotal moment for us, marking the growth of Digital Sun as a team. Five years on, Moonlighter 2: The Endless Vault showcases everything we’ve learned along the way. We’re channeling all our craftsmanship into creating a game that’s not just better but brimming with even more charm in every detail.”

What’s new in Moonlighter 2: The Endless Vault?

Building on the first game’s unique mix of shopkeeping and roguelike exploration, Moonlighter 2: The Endless Vault promises to expand the formula with more dynamic gameplay, deeper mechanics, and a larger world.

Players will once again step into the shoes of Will, the brave merchant-hero, as he embarks on interdimensional adventures. This time, Will finds himself stranded in Tresna, a mysterious new land filled with both familiar and fresh faces. A powerful collector offers Will a way home, but it comes at a price—retrieving treasures from three perilous dimensions.

Features that stand out

Here’s a breakdown of what fans can expect from Moonlighter 2:

Endless dimensions and challenges

Players will explore procedurally generated worlds filled with dangerous foes, clever traps, and valuable relics. These dimensions change with every run, keeping the experience fresh and rewarding.

Unique combat and tools

Combat gets an upgrade with an arsenal that includes swords, gauntlets, and even Will’s trusty broom. Players can fine-tune their playstyle through unlockable upgrades and strategic backpack arrangements, allowing for creative combinations and effects.

Shopkeeping redefined

Back in town, Will’s shop serves as both a business and a home. Players can haggle with customers, manage shop décor, and even tackle unexpected challenges like sudden messes. Earnings can be reinvested to improve both shop operations and adventuring gear, blending commerce and combat seamlessly.

A fresh setting with familiar charm

Fans of the first game will recognise Moonlighter 2’s blend of whimsy and mystery. Tresna, the new setting, is filled with blob-like creatures, otherworldly relics, and a dash of intrigue. The story explores themes of trust and ambition, as Will’s deal with the enigmatic businessman unfolds in surprising ways.

Memorable soundtrack, community excitement, and what’s next

Adding to the immersive experience is a new soundtrack by Chris Larkin, celebrated for his work on Hollow Knight. Paired with vibrant and detailed visuals, the game ensures every dimension and shop interaction feels alive, drawing players deeper into its world.

The announcement has already sparked excitement among fans of the original Moonlighter. Many have praised the sequel’s balance of nostalgia and innovation, with early glimpses of gameplay hinting at a polished experience that remains true to the series’ charm.

With its seamless blend of dungeon-crawling adventure and shopkeeping strategy, Moonlighter 2: The Endless Vault is set to captivate both new and returning players. As the 2025 release approaches, there’s plenty to look forward to in this enchanting sequel.
