Bungie recently confirmed the release date for its upcoming extraction shooter, Marathon. Pre-orders went live on Steam soon after. But a strange bug quickly caught everyone’s attention.
Some players noticed that pre-ordering Marathon triggered Destiny 2 to automatically start installing on their PC. The two games are separate, but this backend glitch somehow linked them.
Fans took to social media to poke fun. One user joked that pre-ordering Marathon unleashed a “virus called Destiny 2.” Another wrote, “Bungie is trying to revive Destiny 2 by any means possible.”

Bungie fixes Marathon Steam glitch
Bungie fixed the issue hours later. They also resolved a problem where Collector’s Edition owners couldn’t redeem their game codes on Steam. The team confirmed on social media:
“We’ve resolved an issue where Destiny 2 would begin installing after pre-ordering the game on Steam. We have also resolved an issue where Collector’s Edition owners would receive an error when attempting to activate their game code on Steam.”
The bug was weird, but it gave fans some laughs. With the game launching on March 5, excitement is building.
