Huawei’s Watch 3 leads to the new era of Technology

The Huawei Watch 3 is a fantastic wristwatch for Android users, but it has an experience far too close to its price range. It’s a return to Huawei’s flagship wristwatch brand, which was last seen in 2016 with the Huawei Watch 2, as well as the debut of Harmony OS, the company’s latest operating system. Although it offers many of the same features as the Huawei Watch GT2 (and GT2e), it is a premium gadget.

Price & Competition

The Huawei Watch 3 costs €369 at launch. There is no US price because it will not have a formal debut there, although it is already available for $432 on Amazon US. We anticipate a price decrease in the coming months. It’s a hefty price tag for a company that has previously focused on low-cost smartwatches. However, given the excellent materials and screen, there is considerable value for money.

We’ll get into whether it’s worth the money a little later, but what else can you think about? The Apple Watch Series 6 is naturally £379, so if you’re an iOS user, you can jump right to it.

It’s also difficult to overlook that most of what the Huawei Watch 3 has to offer is also available on the Huawei Watch GT 2 and GT 2e, which cost a lot less. Also worth considering is the Amazfit GTR2e, which includes similar fitness capabilities, stress, temperature tracking, and Alexa for half the price.

Design & Specs

We were blown away by the Huawei Watch 3 as soon as we took it out of the box. The Huawei Watch 3 is a sophisticated smartwatch with excellent materials that speak for itself. The 46mm case isn’t going to be ideal for tiny wrists, and there’s no smaller option, so it’s geared for guys.

The case is made of stainless steel, with a ceramic rear and sapphire 3D glass. At this price, the material blend is fantastic.

Three Variations

The basic Watch 3 comes in three variations, each of which alters the strap material. The Elegant version with the stitched leather strap is on display here. Then there’s Classic, which comes with a silicone band for swimming and workouts, and Elite, which comes with a metal link bracelet. A titanium case is included with the Huawei Watch 3 2019.

The leather band held up well through workouts during our time using Elegant, though each strap is swappable with a quick-release snap so you can change things up. The revolving, twizzling crown is a significant takeaway from the Apple Watch.

This allows you to reach the main menu, return to the watch face, and navigate through menus (much like the Apple Watch). It works, and it’s lovely to have something other than a touchscreen for control.

The screen is one of the best we’ve seen on a smartwatch, and it’s one of the brightest and punchiest we’ve seen. The display isn’t as edge-to-edge as it seems in many press photographs, and there’s a visible black ring around it.

The 1.43-inch display, on the other hand, is large enough to display Harmony OS and allow for easy navigation of the operating system. There’s a good assortment of watch faces, and the design is superior to that of competitors. It has two modes: always on and raise-to-wake, albeit the former would drain the battery faster than Huawei’s three-day claim.

Health & Fitness Features

Since 2019, Huawei has focused heavily on health and fitness on its smartwatches, and much of this has been brought over here. The fitness and sports monitoring experiences are nearly comparable to those found on Huawei’s Watch GT2 series.

Most of the better health features are off by default, so you’ll need to go to the settings to enable them. This includes continuous stress monitoring, constant SpO2 monitoring, and continuous temperature monitoring – but these can deplete your battery life, so consider carefully about what you value.
