Hell is Us launches in less than two months, and developer Rogue Factor has released a new trailer focused entirely on dungeon gameplay.
Narrated by creative director Jonathan Jacques-Belletête, the video highlights the game’s strict no-handholding approach; there’s no map, no quest log, and no objective markers. Players are expected to figure everything out on their own.
Hell is Us dungeons focus on puzzles, combat, and lore
In an interview on the PlayStation Blog, Jacques-Belletête explains how each dungeon has its own theme and emotional tone tied directly to the story. Some focus on puzzles, others lean on combat or environmental changes.
One dungeon shown in the trailer involves shifting water levels to progress. He also points out that players may need to understand the lore to solve certain challenges.

He says;
“One of our themes is ‘history always repeats itself’. Even when you uncover things from the past, they reflect what’s happening now.”
At 1:45 in the trailer, players are asked to pay attention to a rocky hill in the middle of the dungeon. Jacques-Belletête teases that it represents something more, encouraging players to look closer and figure it out themselves.
So far, Hell is Us is positioning itself as a game built around player observation and problem-solving, no hints, no shortcuts.
Whether players will embrace this approach or push back remains to be seen when it launches on September 4, 2025, for PS5, Xbox, and PC.
