In a surprising move, GOG announced that Warcraft 1 and Warcraft 2 will be removed from its store on December 13, following a request from Blizzard. The decision comes just weeks after these iconic titles joined GOG’s Preservation Program and just as Blizzard released remastered versions of both games. Despite the delisting, GOG assures players that those who already own the games will continue to receive full support.
What you need to know:
- GOG delisting: On December 13, both Warcraft 1 and 2 will no longer be available for purchase on GOG, at the request of Blizzard.
- Discount offer: For those who don’t own the games yet, GOG is offering a discount code (“MakeWarcraftLiveForever”) that will reduce the price of the bundle (normally $14.99) by $2.
- Support for existing owners: Players who already own the games will still have access to seamless gameplay and tech support for years to come.
The importance of game preservation and GOG’s commitment
The growing concern over game preservation is evident with titles like The Crew, which was removed from sale and can no longer be played. Even single-player games, such as Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, are at risk due to digital-only elements, leaving physical versions incomplete.
GOG plans to add hundreds of games to its Preservation Program by the end of 2025. Each game undergoes quality tests, and if it doesn’t meet GOG’s standards, it will be improved until it does.
Despite the delisting, GOG continues to support Warcraft 1 and Warcraft 2 for existing owners. The Preservation Program offers reassurance that classic games will remain playable in the future.
