Prime Video’s upcoming God of War series continues to take shape, with two major casting announcements adding more weight to the Norse saga.
According to Deadline, legendary actor Mandy Patinkin has been cast as Odin. Best known for his role as Inigo Montoya in The Princess Bride, Patinkin will portray the All-Father, ruler of the Norse pantheon and father to Thor and Heimdall. Heimdall was previously confirmed to be played by Max Parker, rounding out the core Asgardian family.

Thor’s casting brings a darker edge to the God of War series
Thor has also been officially cast. Ólafur Darri Ólafsson, recognised for his intense performance as Mr. Drummond in Severance, will play the God of Thunder. This version of Thor is described as a former soldier of Asgard and Odin’s once-trusted right-hand man. He is struggling with self-confidence and leaning on alcohol to cope, suggesting a more grounded and troubled take on the character.
There is an interesting link to the games too. Ryan Hurst, who plays Kratos in the series, previously voiced Thor in God of War: Ragnarök. Thor’s wife, Sif, will be played by Teresa Palmer.
Despite no episodes being filmed yet, Amazon Prime Video has already renewed God of War for a second season. Production is expected to begin in February 2026. The first two episodes will be directed by Frederick E. O. Toye, known for his work on Fallout. A release date has yet to be announced.
